A gentle breeze rustled among the trees. Anna was afraid that sudden wind would ruin Saigon's braiding, but it seemed the mare was doing a fine job of that on her own without any help from the weather; the mare switched her tail back and forth exuberantly, tossing her head and tugging at the leadrope as she moved into the ring with skittish steps. The mare had been relatively relaxed the past couple of days, but it seemed the excitement had finally gotten to be a bit much, and she was in an obstinate mood this morning.

She struggled to get Saigon lined up properly, and the mare kept either stepping forward or sideways. "Come on now Sai, it's the last class, we'll be heading home tonight, please just behave now," Anna whispered. Just as the judge glanced their way, Saigon spotted something in the distance. The mare froze, gazing forward intently with pricked ears, her tail fluttering slightly in the breeze. Then, as if nothing had happened, she snorted and tossed her head again. Anna was glad that she had decided to give Saigon a nice long break after this show; the mare needed some time to just relax in a pasture and develop some common sense. Still, she had been a good girl throughout this show, so perhaps it was a bit much to expect her to be perfect now towards the end.
