Gabriel was feeling a little sweaty as he tacked up Bandit in preparation for the polebending class. He had no concerns about whether Bandit would cooperate or not; the stallion was generally pretty easy-going and willing to go along with whatever he was asked. No, the problem was that he might be too easy-going. The paint horse was a stocky fellow, with plenty of muscles for quick acceleration; however, with a practically nonexistent show record so far, it was difficult to say just how agile he was. Gabe had no idea if Bandit would have both the speed necessary to get a good time, and the quick turn of foot to avoid missing poles even at a rapid pace.

As he tightened up the cinch, Gabriel's thoughts wandered back towards Falkengård, and the things that awaited him upon his return. Anna had been odd lately, even more withdrawn and quiet than usual; at first, he had wondered if she was depressed over something, but she seemed to be keeping herself busy. With what, he had no idea; but oftentimes he would catch a glimpse of her scribbling in a notebook, or engaged in a muffled phonecall. He knew better than to pester- she would tell him what was up eventually, if it was something he should know about. Still, she wasn't able to ride as much as before, and he had a lot of slack to pick up when he got home. Besides training the string of western horses he'd brought to this show, he also needed to get cracking on taming the kiras... and what of all the young horses, and the jumpers at the farm?

With any luck, Anna would recover sufficiently to be able to ride like normal again soon; if not, then they had a problem. Shaking his head, Gabriel put the thoughts out of his mind. He had a ride to focus on; and though the idea was to make it as short as possible, that would only happen if he was paying attention properly.
