Falkens Srslyimabiach at The J.C. Breeders Cup Mile

Training progressed for Siri and Ryou. Joshua's knee stubbornly refused to do much more than hobble along at a ginger walk.
The calendar ticked forward, the number of days until the Breeders Cup reducing at a rapid pace, and Joshua was faced with
a decision.

On the one hand, Ryou was a rookie. His own trainer barely gave him races to ride, let alone decent ones; he had potential,
but lacked the experience Joshua would have liked.

On the other hand, he had a head for these things. He coaxed a little extra out of otherwise slow horses, spotted the easiest
routes, and once he was in the saddle, displayed a remarkable focus; when training Siri, he actually listened to Joshua's advice
and put it into practice. And due to his rookie status, he was dirt cheap, which didn't hurt- though Joshua made sure to pay him
as fairly as budget would allow.

The morning of the Mile, the sun rose behind a clouded sky, and Siri stood in her stall waiting impatiently for breakfast. It was
race day, she could sense it in the air; Joshua too was a bit on edge, as despite his many years of experience, the Breeders Cup
was still kind of an enormous gigantic deal. But today, a third was also fretfully preparing to represent the team; how could
Ryou say no to an opportunity like this? When Joshua had asked him to ride Siri, he accepted immediately. He was deeply
honored, and excited beyond measure, but also nervous; he couldn't let Joshua down, not after the older man had put such
faith in him.

Siri didn't really care about this. She just wanted her food. She wanted it two hours ago. Where were those humans??

Sort of a "HARPG new year's resolution" of mine is to improve my art through a) practicing humans, b) improving backgrounds, c) improving lighting. This is a sketchy mess of a drawing, but it fulfils the role of practicing lighting. I know there are many things missing, but I do not have the time or the motivation to really make it "complete"; it is an experiment, and training myself to think more about incorporating light and colors in a better way. Initially the clouds were grey and shading consisted only of the sketchy internal lining, and it looked boring and blah and blaaaaah; adding color to the sky and block shadows proved to be a vast improvement that didn't take much time. Yay experimentoids. There was going to be a person, but I got mad at it. The other images for this race are my person practice.

This is lovely, you've definitely done well with the lighting!
That grumpy expression is wonderful.

Sounds like you have the same resolutions as me.
